Auntie May told we were never to reveal to the name and location of this island. And then, to my surprise, she told us the name on this video. No matter. I couldn’t pronounce the name. To me, it sounded like the Malay word for ‘nine’.
Setting off for a Malaysian wedding
This goes out to Mr Gyula Vamosi, who is a big fan of weddings. In this clip, we’re setting off with Sultan and his friend (Mr Nazim) with family. I originally uploaded this clip here: http://www.facebook.com/seagypsyadventures/photos
It takes FOREVER to upload video here in Malaysia, so I’ll probably drip these out over the coming days and weeks. Yes, I do have backlog!
Greetings to Indro Waskito in Switzerland!
We don’t understand what Indro is doing in Switzerland, but we have a big respect. How does he keep warm? How does he survive?
My life is turning inside out (but at least I’m not alone)
My life is turning inside out. That’s why I’m here in Malaysia. And that’s why I built this blog – to share the experience of this transformative year.
The people closest to me are going through major life changes – as well as just about everybody else I know.
My daughter, Hanna, is finishing university in Budapest. The road is opening before you, Hanna. I want to help make your journey possible, and I may also join you. We don’t know where that road leads, do we? Change is scary, I know. But you are ready.
My friend here in Malaysia, Sultan, is trying to find his purpose. You don’t really know what you want to do with yourself, do you buddy? Maybe we can travel together for a while. Let’s see.
Sabine is in Budapest, trying to make her way to the mountains of Ladakh. Thanks for watching my flat, Sabine. I know that our paths will cross soon. But I don’t know where. I am glad that we are able to help each other.
Mr Vamosi is in Pécs, trying to make his way to London. I know you can do it, buddy. And I know we’ll find a way to work together. I don’t know how yet. But I do know that you need to keep tuning in to that Gypsy magic of yours.
Finally, here I am in Malaysia working on my pashmina business. It feels like an all or nothing proposition. I am determined to make this business work. I am determined to travel to Nepal. I feel the ground shrinking underneath my feet and it is terrifying. But it is also exhilarating. I really have no idea where I’ll be at the end of this year.
There are many others I haven’t mentioned. Adele. Edit. Indro. And the list continues.
The world just won’t stop changing, and in 2012 it feels like everything is in the air. It helps to remember that we are all in this together. And somehow, everything will work out just fine in the end. It always does.
Greetings to Monica!
A video shoutout to Monica De Aragao from the beaches of Kuantan, Malaysia
Is California ready for pisang goreng?
I was sharing my latest food addiction with Marilyn the Toymaker and she asked me to post a recipe. Pisang goreng! Malaysian banana fritters. Can’t get enough!
But these just wouldn’t taste the same with the American banana. Here in Asia, you get a whole spectrum of bananas. There? Just one.
So what do I know. I haven’t lived in the States for 25 years. Marilyn wrote back to say she can get plantains on the next corner. So maybe there’s hope yet.
Okay, Marilyn! This looks like a good pisang goreng recipe. And you should also read this post which talks about the bananas they use over here.
Let me know how the experiment goes. My friend, Sultan, thinks pisang goreng might be good business in California. Just remember, you read it here first.
Hanna, meet Auntie Mey
I made this video for my daughter, Hanna. Auntie Mey lives in Cherating, a seaside resort on the east coast of Malaysia. Her house is right next to the jungle, and her front porch is covered with tropical plants. She cares for the stray dogs in the neighborhood, and there’s even a horse that drops by to visit.
Waiting for the house gecko to speak
Billy and Puppy welcome me to the White House
